NOVEMBER 2014

After over 350 years the memories of the Mountainy Kennedys of their descent from “The Lords of Ormond” had faded. The lines of descent of the Kennedys who went into the mountains rather than transplant to Connacht have now provided historical reference points. Through the contributions of many individuals to gathering and sharing information, the story of the Mountainy Kennedys is emerging from the obscurity of hundreds of years.

  1. I am getting desperate as I am getting nowhere with tracing my gg grandfather Dennis Kennedy's family. I thought I had struck gold with William Kennedy and Mary Ryan as many of the names matched - father William Kennedy, mother Mary, sister Catherine, sister Mary, dates of birth and Tipperary. After wasting many many hours I realised that this Mary Ryan had children born in Tipperary after the 1851 census puts Dennis in Wales, which is where William, Mary, Dennis, Catherine and further Kennedy siblings remained. Dennis was said to be 5 in this census and Catherine 3. Different census records put William and Mary as being born between 1813 and 1817. None of the census forms list place of birth as anything but Tipperary so I don't have much to go on. Please can you help. I don't think they were Catholic but I don't know for sure. Thanks in advance
